Facts about the municipality
Centrally located along the coast of Norrland surrounded by forest-covered mountains, sea and lakes, lies the municipality of Kramfors. Within the borders of the municipality you will find the World Heritage area of the High Coast which attracts thousands of visitors each year from all over the world.
The main urban centre is the city of Kramfors which was given city status in 1947 and its geographical borders in 1974. There are also 16 smaller communities within the municipality.
Businesses in Kramfors were marked by the flourishing wood mill era from the latter part of the 19th century until the 1930s. However, over the last couple of decades there has been a broadening of commercial activity into mechanical and service industries amongst others. The recognition of the High Coast as a World Heritage area in 2000 has also resulted in the tourist industry growing steadily every year.
